systems down |
 |
2.5-Inch Enterprise • 146 GB and 73 GB •
10K RPM • 3-Gb/s SAS
The 2.5-inch Seagate Savvio 10K.2 enterprise hard drive offers up to 146-GB capacity and has the highest reliability rating in the world. Savvio 10K.2 drives are 70 percent smaller than 3.5-inch drives, enabling more drives per system for increased performance per U (vertical usable space) and optimized performance per watt. The Savvio drive also uses less power and enables more airflow to cool faster processors. |

Key Features and Benefits
- Seagate® Savvio® 10K.2 drives are 70 percent smaller than
3.5-inch 10K drives and enable cooler, faster and much more
reliable systems.
- The Savvio 10K.2 drive consumes less power, creates less heat
to cool and enables more airflow to cool processors.
- The Savvio 10K.2 has a higher reliability rating than any 3.5-inch
drive and the best nonrecoverable error rate, improved by a
factor of 10, which rigorously safeguards data.
- More drives per system than 3.5-inch drives allow RAID 5, or
mirroring with hot spares, in 1U servers. Savvio 10K.2 drives
bring enterprise-class reliability to blade servers.
- The Savvio 2.5-inch form factor enables integration of more drives
into smaller, more space-efficient chassis sizes to deliver higher
IOPS/U than conventional 3.5-inch systems, and the smaller
form factor allows more memory in the system to match
faster processors.
Best-Fit Applications
The Savvio 10K.2 drive is designed for mainstream enterprise
applications:
- Email/collaboration
- Database
- Transaction processing
- Rack and tower servers
- Blade servers
- Storage arrays
- Space-constrained specialty applications

Product Description
The Seagate Savvio 10K.2 hard drive is 70
percent smaller than 3.5-inch drives, consuming
less power and enabling more airflow to cool
processors. The 2.5-inch Savvio 10K.2 drive
enables more drives per system, increasing
RAID options and performance per U. With a
record-breaking reliability rating and the best
nonrecoverable error rate in the world, the Savvio
10K.2 drive delivers high reliability and improved
performance density in a cooler running system.
The Savvio 10K.2 drive is available in 73-GB and
146-GB capacities with a 3-Gb/s Serial Attached
SCSI (SAS) interface. For all these reasons,
Savvio is fast becoming the drive of choice for
enterprise servers.
The Seagate Advantage
- Seagate pioneered the 2.5-inch enterprise
platform with great success. This secondgeneration
drive builds on that success with a
new, record-breaking reliability rating and the
addition of the 15K-RPM line of Savvio drives.
- he Savvio 10K.2 drive is a breakthrough
product in hard drive reliability and is offered
by a trusted partner.
- erpendicular recording enables the highest
enterprise SFF capacity ever—146 GB—and up
to 25 percent faster sequential performance
than the previous Savvio drive.
- Seagate offers a complete line of 2.5-inch
enterprise drives. The Savvio 10K.2 drive has
capacities up to 146 GB, and the Savvio 15K
drive delivers the fastest performance in
the world.
Enabling New Opportunities
- Solution designers value the design flexibility to provide more competitive solutions afforded
by the smaller size, lower power consumption, greater performance and greater reliability of Savvio 10K.2 drives.
- The Savvio 10K.2 drive’s 70 percent smaller
size enables more airflow to cool processors and enables more room for more memory to further increase system performance.
- The Savvio 10K.2 drive provides the highest reliability, ensuring higher uptime in rigorous enterprise environments.
- The Savvio 10K.2 drive allows RAID 5, or
mirroring with hot spares, in 1U servers. Savvio 10K.2 drives bring enterprise-class reliability to blade servers.
The Savvio 10K.2 drive delivers higher reliability and greater
performance density in a cooler-running system.
Cooler
- The 2.5-inch enterprise drive is 70 percent smaller than 3.5-inch
drives, enabling more airfl ow to cool processors.
- The smaller size enables the Savvio 10K.2 drive to consume at
least 20 percent less power than any 3.5-inch 10K drive, reducing
power costs.
- The Savvio 10K.2 creates less heat, lowering system temperatures
and reducing cooling costs.
Faster
- The Savvio 10K.2 drive’s 70 percent smaller size enables integration
of more drives into smaller, more space-effi cient systems to deliver
higher performance per U than classic 3.5-inch systems.
- Seek times over 10 percent faster than all other 10K 3.5-inch drives
enable exceptional random I/O performance.
- The Savvio 10K.2 drive has over 40 percent faster sequential
performance than the last-generation Savvio drive.
More Reliable
- The Savvio 10K.2 drive sets a new record for the highest reliability
rating in the world and is offered by a trusted partner.
- The Savvio 10K.2 drive uses perpendicular recording to comfortably
deliver 146-GB capacity and has the best nonrecoverable error rate,
improved by a factor of 10, to rigorously safeguard data.
- The Savvio 10K.2 drive enables more drives per system, allowing
RAID 5 in 1U servers, or allowing mirroring with hot spares in
1U servers. The Savvio 10K.2 drive brings enterprise-class
performance and reliability to blade servers.
